The Inn on the Harbor is pleased to announce that we are renovating the 1890 farm house on our 180 acre farm which overlooks the Katahdin mountain range of Baxter State Park. This is the edge of the Great North Woods. We are creating 2 beautiful duplex apartments, a 2 bedroom and a 1 bedroom, for year round weekly rentals. Why year round? I was hoping you would ask. Here are a few seasonal reasons why you might enjoy visiting this gorgeous farm “up north in the mountains”.

Winter: A local snowmobile club trail passes right through the edge of the farm connecting to ITS85 and ITS81. Baxter Park has 40 miles of cross country ski trails and you can snowshoe on the farm. Nearby Pleasant Lake offers icehouse fishing rentals.

Spring: Many lakes are within 30 minutes of the farm for superb flyfishing. May & June are prime moose watching months at the farm or with a guided tour within Baxter (seeing 20 to 30 moose in early spring is “normal”!). The farm is ringed with apple trees which create a lovely backdrop for watching the fields being prepared for planting. (We grow alfalfa, barley and clover.)

Summer: The farm is within 25 miles of the northern entrance of Baxter State Park and close to the well known Lumberman’s Museum and local ATV trails. Rafting enthusiasts will enjoy the famous Allagash waterway not far away.

Autumn: Well, what can I say about autumn in Maine. It’s like being in heaven. Watch the last harvest of the season, shop for pumpkins and mums. Bird season begins October 1st, deer season is the month of November and moose season is one week in October. The farm is home to a marvelous assortment of wild game including moose, deer, bears, wild turkeys, grouse, pheasants, rabbits, foxes all just wandering around the 180 acres. Hunting on the farm is by prior arrangment only and is strictly enforced.

Occupancy: We anticipate being ready to accept rentals for August 1st 2006. Checkin will be Sunday afternoon from 3-6pm. Checkout will be Sunday morning at 9am.
